Starting today, save 20% on all bookings at this five-star hotel between the dates of Feb. 13-18 – a peak time in February because of Florida’s largest annual event – the Miami International Boat Show.

New Orleans is hotbed of activity at the moment. With Mardi Gras celebrations underway and Super Bowl XLVII only days away, the city is buzzing with visitors and space is limited. At this point, securing affordable lodging in the Big Easy can be all but that.

Fortunately, Hotels.com is currently offering  a great NOLA deal for you that will make you want to start your own parade.

The Ambassador Hotel New Orleans is offering rates at 50% off, from now until Feb. 28, 2013.

Only a very short walk from Bourbon Street, the Ambassador Hotel is located in the very heart of a city known for just that, its heart. Three Cheers for a College Bowl Vacation!

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Where will you be when your favorite team plays this year? (Photo courtesy of sports.espn.go.com)

Sure this time of year is all about holiday cheer, but if you are a collegiate football fan then cheer might mean supporting your favorite team in one of the upcoming bowl games.

College Bowl Games begin next weekend through January 9th, 2012 when the BCS Championship Bowl Game is played between Alabama and LSU. And whether or not you agree with which Bowl your team may have been selected for (BCS and ESPN hand in hand), College Bowl games are a great excuse for a vacation.

There are plenty of events and opportunities to interact with the team and coaches and of course, the game itself. And let’s not forget all the attractions that the host city has to offer. According to a recent article by Businessweek, 16 states (including the District of Columbia) are directly involved financially in supporting their bowls, understanding that more than $1.75 billion in economic impact is generated in the respective regions.

With 35 Bowl games this year to choose from, I’m highlighting a few standouts for the combination of destination, competitive match-up, and hotel deals.

Maaco Bowl Las Vegas – Las Vegas, NV

December 22, 2011

Some say 11-1 Boise State deserve a BCS bowl for their impressively played season. Regardless, Las Vegas is one of the most hospitable and entertaining destinations in the world. Check out these hotel deals in Las Vegas.

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl – Honolulu, HI

December 24, 2011

Who doesn’t want to add a little hula to their football revelry? Nevada and Southern Miss fans can take in some Hawaiian hospitality in Honolulu while cheering on their favorite teams. There are some great hotel deals in this tropical paradise. The only downside to this match-up? Airfare.

Champs Sports Bowl – Orlando, FL

December 29, 2011

This year FSU and Notre Dame are competitively matched for what should be a great game AND they get to share in a week of events and some theme park fun in Orlando. After all, what athlete doesn’t dream of saying after a victory “I’m going to Disneyworld!”

Outback Bowl – Tampa, FL

January 2, 2012

My Georgia Bulldawgs are taking on Michigan State University in Tampa. Tampa has such a great mix of what I like to call sun, sand and something fun to do at night. Stay at nearby beaches in town to enjoy Tampa’s dining, shopping and entertainment.

Valero Alamo Bowl – San Antonio, TX

December 29, 2011

Want a chance to see the Heisman winner lead Baylor to a Bowl victory over Washington or looking for a good excuse to see the famed River Walk? Either way, plan a New Year’s trip to San Antonio.

Allstate BCS Championship Game – New Orleans, LA

January 9, 2012

I just love a good SEC battle and while the game alone may be reason to travel, New Orleans is at its best when there’s a reason to celebrate. Take advantage of the festivities and book your hotel stay in New Orleans this week on Hotels.com. You can save up to 40% on your accommodations.

Headed to a different game? Check out Hotels.com to see even more bowl game hotel deals.

Hotel Booking ‘On the Fly’ – Literally!

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

JT Holmes is booking a hotel room while skydiving!

Remember the last time you jumped out of a plane and thought, “Oh shoot! I forgot to book a hotel for my family getaway this weekend!” – wasn’t that horrible? Didn’t you wish there was a way to easily and quickly book a hotel room from almost anywhere, even at the very last minute?

All kidding aside, not many travelers find themselves jumping out of airplanes like extreme athlete and stuntman, JT Holmes (pictured above), but a vast majority do have a need to book accommodations on-the-go or in-a-pinch – especially as the use of mobile devices as consumer travel tools increases.

In tune with this trend and the needs of travelers, hotels.com continues to launch new applications with sophisticated functionality, such as its high-speed mobile booking application, which allows users to book rooms at its network of almost 140,000 worldwide hotels.

What’s more, today, hotels.com launched an exciting, “extreme” campaign centered on this valuable app; teaming up world-renowned skydiver, JT Holmes, to put on a wild digital demonstration to prove just how easy it is to book a room while doing just about anything – even flying at over 115 miles per hour in a 15,000 foot freefall!

This stunt is a live-action version of a hotels.com animated television commercial.

The hotels.com mobile booking app, which has been downloaded over a million times by iPhone and Android users, features exclusive mobile deals and over 20,000 last minute deals. It is available in more than 30 languages in more than 70 countries, and can access past and future reservations, even when offline. Fall into Football

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Football season is back and it's the perfect excuse to travel. (Photo courtesy of associatedcontent.com)

Football season is back! Whether you love the NFL or the NCAA, the next 12 weeks should definitely satisfy the most committed armchair quarterbacks. But why sit idly by at home when you can join tens of thousands of spirited fans clad in team colors and shouting for a win? Traveling to see your team play is a great way to renew your commitment to the team and even explore some of those “away” game destinations.

Hotels.com is featuring a Football Sale on its website, promoting savings up to 30%. Here are a few examples:

Ann Arbor, MISheraton Ann Arbor Hotel: from $149/night.

ChicagoHotel Felix: from $114/night.

New OrleansEmbassy Suites Hotel New Orleans: from $79/night plus 3rd night free.

San DiegoHumphrey’s Half Moon Inn & Suites: from $84/night.

TampaWyndham Westshore Hotel: from $84/night.

If you are flying, remember that airfare into small towns is more expensive. Most college towns are located within driving distance to a major city; check flights into the larger cities and look for car rental deals or a city shuttle.

Some of the airlines are putting out their fall and football airfare sales this week. Check Southwest, Delta, American, and Spirit airlines for some of those deals.   And note that most fare sales only last a day or two with limited seats for sale.  If you want to go, you’ll have to book quickly to score the big savings. United Airlines often posts Twitter exclusive fares, called Twares, so be sure to follow airlines that offer the routes that interest you.

What team will you be rooting for this football season?

With summer’s winding down, airfare prices are also taking a dip. Here are a few examples of great fares that I have found. Check airfarewatchdog.com to see the prices from your origination city.

Summer Kick-Off! Last Minute Memorial Day Deals

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Even though Mother Nature has seemingly forgotten that summer is quickly approaching in Colorado, I am confident that she will not fail me for a gorgeous Memorial Day ushering in summer this weekend.

Did it creep up on you too? Have no fear because last minute deals abound and there are great spots ripe for the picking for your next long weekend getaway.

The Cayman Islands are a great place to kick-off summer. (Photo courtesy of travel.nytimes.com)

In 2010, over 281 million people visited U.S. National Parks, and this year, they’re expecting their biggest numbers ever. I, for example, am spending the weekend at Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.

And if you are looking for a last minute getaway and don’t know where to go, here are my suggestions with the help of my friends at hotels.com.

Orlando

It will be hot, the lines will be long, but nothing says welcome to summer quite like a trip to Orlando and a visit to the theme parks and hotel prices are too good to pass up. You can save up to 50% on your stay through hotels.com.

Suggestions: The Coco Key Hotel and Water Resort is an affordable and fun spot where you can cool off in the hotel pools when the Florida sun gets too hot; or rent your own private home with its own pool thru Legacy Vacation Homes.

Chicago

I can’t say enough about Chicago in the summer time. Haven’t been? Now’s your chance to go with huge hotel savings from hotels.com!

Suggestions: The Allerton Hotel on Magnificent Mile, the Radisson Chicago O’Hare and The Hotel Felix are fun, affordable options in the heart of Chi-Town.

Charleston, SC

One of my favorite cities for a summer stroll is Charleston, South Carolina. You can’t go wrong with a stay in the historic district or on the coastal sand dunes.

Suggestions: In the heart of old Charleston you can stay at the historic Francis Marion Hotel.

Stay 3 nights and save 30% at the ResortQuest Rentals at Kiawah Island located on the Atlantic Ocean.

Austin

I love everything about Austin from the music to the food, and spending some time in the summer down south is always a blast.

Suggestions: The Omni Austin Hotel at South Park is a great family-friendly option, with rooms starting at just $116 on hotels.com

Cayman Islands

If your passports are ready then catch a plane and a deal when you visit The Cayman Islands this summer!

Suggestions: Treasure Island Resort is a 2 ½ star affordable lodging option with three pools and a private beach.

The Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa – Seven Mile Beach features open-air restaurants, a gorgeous beachfront and the Westin Kids Club.

What are your favorite places to visit in the summer? Will you be taking any trips this year?
