Charlotte is beautiful any time of the year, but I particularly love it in the fall. (Photo courtesy of metrodepth.com)
The spotlight’s on Charlotte this week as the Democratic National Convention begins their fête. Charlotte is the perfect blend of art, business and southern hospitality. Walking through downtown, you can’t escape the creative influence in mosaics, sculpture and water art. There is practically some sort of fountain on every corner. And even though it is one of the U.S.’s financial hubs, there is a nice fusion of banking brawn and sophistication and charm that you only find in southern cities.
Fun Fact: Did you know that Charlotte was built over several gold mines? These mines still exist under the city’s streets.
Try Charlotte!
What you’ll remember it for: I can’t give you one reason, but I can give you ten! Charlotte is clean; it’s funky; it’s traditional; it’s delicious; it’s smart; it’s cultural; it’s affordable; it’s diverse; it’s alive; and it’s unforgettable!
Something you won’t experience anywhere else: A visit to the Billy Graham Library is like a stroll through time with one of the most influential voices of the 20th century.
A Sport for all Seasons: The DNC kicks things off with a party at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The NASCAR Hall of Fame is also located here. But driving fast isn’t all they like to do in this North Carolina city. Charlotte is home to the NFL’s Caroline Panthers and the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting. And, don’t forget the great outdoors! Charlotte is home to the US National Whitewater Center where you can whitewater raft, hike, trek, canoe, kayak, repel, zip, and more.
A Cultural Experience:
Charlotte is home to some of the nation’s foremost museums and galleries. The Mint Museums and Bechtler Museum of Modern Art feature some of the world’s finest collections. The new ImaginOn is a library, children’s theatre and so much more. It is an exemplary resource for communities across the U.S.
The Dunhill Hotel and The Duke Mansion are great choices for history buffs. If a luxury stay is on your agenda then reserve a room at The Ballantyne Hotel and be sure to visit its award-winning spa. For the ultimate family-fun locale, choose The Great Wolf Lodge and get a little water-park action in during your visit.
